Fashion Trends

 Introduction.

Although this post is not about a movie like the last one, I would like to analyze the stylings of the upscale northeastern family in Knives Out. The fashion from this movie has influenced the fashion seen in real life in a not insignificant way. A few things to look out for when identifying this style:
-Cable knit/chunky sweaters
-Large coats
-Lots of color

Analysis.

This style is relevant because it is becoming more and more popular to dress like this during the fall and winter months, even in the south. This is particularly relevant in menswear, where sweaters, layered jackets, and pops of color are becoming more and more common and accepted. The use of texture is important here; while sweaters of all kinds are becoming more fashionable, cable-knit sweaters are extremely relevant to the conversation. They are being seen in outfits as the main statement piece, but also just as a background article.

Young people are mostly adopting this trend. Fashion in general has become more important to younger generations than it has in the past, but fashion that is seen as upscale is especially popular. Stores such as Target now sell pieces that can replicate this style, making it more accessible to people of all demographics. While the family portrayed in this movie are very wealthy, this style is now replicated by people from all backgrounds.

Forecasting.

I think that this style will only get more popular. As weather patters become more extreme, people are looking for fashionable ways to stay warm. The large jackets and sweaters that are emblematic of this style also serve a functional purpose of keeping people very warm. This trend will grow in the next 3-5 years, becoming less of a standout choice and more of a de facto standard for wear during the cold season. I think that fashion brands that are accessible to the common man should take particular note of this trend. Store brands from major retailers such as Walmart and Target can use the predicted growth of this trend to provide more options for people that may not be able to afford the high fashion pieces that they want to wear. These lower cost alternatives will prove to sell very quickly and very effectively.

The film follows a recently deceased married couple who want the new family to leave their old house. They employ the help of Beetlejuice (Keaton) to much chaos and turmoil. It has become a somewhat iconic film in the nearly 40 years since its release, and a sequel is to be released on September 6th, 2024. In this post, I will discuss some of the iconic fashion looks featured in this film, as well as the impact they have had on modern-day stylings.  DESCRIPTION The first character I'll be looking at is Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder. Lydia spends most of her screen time in the movie wearing all black.  Source: Heroes Wiki Her outfits have inspired much of the goth style that has been popular in recent years. Later in the movie, she wears a bright red wedding dress, which was the idea of costume designer Aggie Guerard Rogers ...
